Frequently Asked Questions
What is Federal Solar Tax Credit?
The federal residential solar energy credit allows homeowners to claim a percentage of their solar PV system costs back on federal income taxes. To qualify, the system must be installed within the tax year. Currently, homeowners in the states can receive a 30% rebate, which will decrease to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034.
Am I eligible for the federal solar tax credit?
You may be eligible if:
- Your solar PV system was installed between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2034.
- The system is located at your U.S. residence.
- You own the system (purchased outright or financed, but not leased) or bought an interest in an off-site community solar project, where the electricity is credited against your home’s consumption.
- The system is new and being used for the first time.
Can I get this tax credit if I don’t have a solar power system?
Yes. Starting January 1, 2023, standalone battery storage (batteries not connected to solar panels) also qualifies for the 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit.
Do Dabbsson’s power stations and solar generators qualify for the Federal Tax Credit?
To qualify for the 30% tax credit, the battery storage must:
- Be installed in a home in the U.S. used as your residence.
- Have a capacity of at least 3 kWh.
Enjoy a 30% tax credit on any qualifying battery system, regardless of size, price, brand, or manufacturer.
How do I claim the federal solar tax credit?
After confirming your eligibility with a tax professional, complete and attach IRS Form 5695 to your federal tax return (Form 1040 or 1040NR). Instructions are available here.
