The Federal Solar Tax Credit, also known as the Residential Clean Energy Credit, provides a 30% financial incentive for US taxpayers who install residential solar energy systems, including battery storage technology with a capacity above 3 kWh. This credit helps offset upfront costs, making solar and storage solutions more affordable for homeowners.
Yes, beginning on January 1, 2023, standalone battery storage (batteries that are not connected to solar panels) will also qualify for the 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit. So, even if you only purchase batteries for energy backup purposes, you can still have the opportunity to apply for this tax credit.
To qualify for the 30% tax credit, the battery storage must meet the following criteria:
It is important to note that there are no maximum size, price, brand, manufacture, or tax credit qualifications. Therefore, regardless of whether your battery is made in the US or another country, you can enjoy a 30% tax credit on a battery system of any size.
